This year’s matric results were released at midnight, and Maragon High School in Ruimsig has once again achieved a 100 per cent pass rate. Maragon has been achieving this for the past 10 years. ADvTECH spokesperson Christelle Wolmarans said the 168 distinctions achieved meant that, on average, each pupil had 1,6 distinctions. Jessica Aguiar, Jordyn Haupt and Mira de Cramer managed to get eight distinctions each.
Aguiar is planning to study Speech Pathology at the University of Pretoria. “I would like, more than anything, to be a positive contributor to my community. I know how frustrating it can be to have a speech disability. To help someone overcome this would be very rewarding,” said Aguiar, who plays the piano, fills in crosswords and plays sudoku when she is not helping others.
Haupt, who also passed with eight distinctions, is planning to study BCom Accounting Sciences at the University of Pretoria. She loves maths and would like to one day work in the corporate world. She enjoys horse riding, swimming and hockey, as well as reading, dancing and singing. De Cramer is planning to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Pretoria.
Keara Conradie, Hanli Kruger and Cameron Bolt received seven distinctions each. Jarrod Naude and Anastasios Synodinos each received six As, and Awande Dube finished with five. Ryan Moore, Sandy Sandlana, Jade Smith and Lisa Tredoux finished matric with four distinctions each.
The school’s principal, Deon Visser, said he was proud of the class of 2016: “Congratulations! You’ve always been such a dynamic group and we are very proud of your matric result achievements. We wish you much success for your future.”
