Stumps a potential hazard to motorists

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Tree stumps on the roadside are blocking motorists' visibility on Adamson Turn.

Local resident, Quinton Delyse Hoy, reached out to the community with a warning of a potential accident on the corner of Albert Street and Adamson Turn.

Delyse Hoy explained that trees used to line the corner of the two streets, which were chopped down when they began to hang over the road. The stumps of the trees are now regrowing, causing large balls of greenery to surround the stumps.

These leaves now block motorists’ line of sight if they are trying to enter Albert Street from Adamson Turn. Delyse Hoy believes an accident is imminent but is not sure who to approach to remove the stumps.

“I don’t want it to be one of my family – my daughter and granddaughter – to be in an accident because of the stumps,” said Delyse Hoy.

Ward 97 councillor, Leah Knott advised that City Parks would remove them if they are located on council property. “I’m assuming that as it’s on the roadside then this would be the case,” said Knott.

However, Weltevreden Park falls out of her ward and Ward 89 councillor Amelia Bester would be able to help further. Bester and City Parks were, unfortunately not able comment by the time of publication.

Delyse Hoy added that a complex in Adamson Turn had resorted to removing a stump close to their driveway themselves.
