A rollercoaster 2016
My wish for you is happiness, laughter, peace, prosperity and safety, not just this festive season but for the year ahead.
In many ways 2016 was an annus horribilis – the Pelser baby murder, the death of the little girl whom the nation got to know as Poppie, a surreal political landscape, the #feesmustfall protests and many other woes.
But at this time of the year I, like most, once again pretend for just little while that all is well in my corner of the world. My cynicism evaporates for just long enough to see humanity again. I put in the effort to rearrange my priorities. To remember that all that counts are family, friends and our passions. To take the time to stop and smile, smell the rain, listen to my baby boy’s laughter and to remind myself again of the many reasons why I love my wife.
I implore you to do the same this festive season; to go back to the roots of what is important; to strengthen the foundations of all that will be your anchor in the new year, because who knows what lies ahead in 2017.
