Ruimsig Country Club celebrates golfing excellence
RUIMSIG – The Ruimsig Country Club hails its junior golfers for an exciting season
Junior golfers of the Ruimsig Country Club have taken the club to new heights following their outstanding performances.
The achievement of the youngsters has seen the club excelling both at a national and provincial level.
With an outstanding season and a promising career ahead, Ivanna Samu (18), who recently turned pro, clinched third position in her first professional golf tournament in the Pink Stig Invitational hosted at the Lost City in November. Samu was also ranked as the country’s number one senior and junior golf amateur in 2015.

Other juniors of the club received the opportunity to participate in recognised tournaments. Charles Jerrard, the club’s golf director said, “Keelan van Wyk, [captain] and Shaun Jones were selected for the U19 Central Gauteng Interprovincial Tournament taking place in White River, Mpumalanga from 11 to 16 December.”
The club’s juniors competed in the Nomads Junior interclub championships where they failed to defend their trophy, but finished as runner-ups.
“Although we were not able to defend our trophy, we finished a credible third place,” said Jerrard.
Another achievement for the club was when junior player, Tyrone van Schelt was awarded his Central Gauteng Golf colours.
Samantha Hance, the club’s marketing manager said they would continue seeking new members and providing beginner programmes. “We continue to look at alternate ways to encourage more people to feel welcome at our club and to take up the sport. We also provide beginner golf programmes which cater for about 50 women.”
