Your map to a lighter Christmas
Plan your route on Rudolph’s Light Scout to see some of the best-lit houses in your area
There is no better way to celebrate Christmas than going for a drive in the neighbourhood looking for houses decorated with colourful Christmas lights.
Most of us still remember the time when the Johannesburg central business district (CBD) was decorated with beautiful lights in the spirit of Christmas. Everyone – young and old – was very excited to take a trip to see the light displays, and the excursion was probably one of the best things to do during this time of the year.

Unfortunately, this practice has become a thing of the past. However, this tradition is making a comeback through homeowners who want to bring back the joy and excitement of Christmas. These people spend a lot of time decorating their houses and gardens with amazing Christmas displays, ensuring the Christmas spirit is kept alive.
Homescout has decided to encourage this tradition by enabling community members to join in on the festivities. They have created Rudolph’s Light Scout, an online route planner that enables people to choose a route to follow to see some of the best lit houses in their area.

Homeowners who decorate their houses during the festive season are encouraged to contact Leigh Smith on leigh@homescout.co.za to arrange for him to take some photos for the Light Scout. As soon as your display is posted online, you will be entered into a draw to win a prize.
If you and your family can be classified as light scouters always on the lookout for those special houses to visit, it’s now easier than ever to plan your outing. Just visit www.rudolphslightscout.co.za, choose from a variety of reindeer routes, grab some snacks and let the light scouting begin. By visiting the houses on your chosen route, you will also be entered into a draw for a special prize.

“What can I win?” you may ask. A lucky draw will take place on 27 December and one homeowner and one light scout will each become the proud owner of a new 7″ Lenovo Tab 3 tablet.
So, don’t wait any longer, head on to the website, choose a route and keep the spirit of Christmas alive and well.
