Resident makes puzzling discovery in yard
The name Van Niekerk is inscribed on many of the photos.
A Florida North resident, Steve Klaassen, has made a puzzling discovery on his premises.
About three weeks ago, he discovered a cookie tin inside a pillowcase in his yard. Because he has been ill, he was only able to bring the matter to the Record‘s attention today (13 December). Inside the cookie tin there’s a measuring tape, a broken string of fake pearls and a stash of photographs. Klaassens believes the items were dropped by criminals, most likely after burgling a house.
The photos appear to cover the period from the 60s right up to the present. On a number of photos the surname Van Niekerk appears; on the back of one, the name Leandrie Olivier has been written, and on another, the names Leon and Hansie have been added. The majority of photographs seem to have been taken at family social events such as braais.
Anyone who suspects the photos might be theirs, or thinks they know the owner of the photos, can contact the Record’s offices on 011 955 1130.
