Metro police warn motorists about drunk driving

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Drunk motorists will be prosecuted this festive season, warns Metro police.

Metro police communications officer Superintendent Wayne Minnaar has issued a firm warning that all motorists caught driving under the influence of alcohol this festive season will be locked up.

The announcement comes after the arrest of an alleged drunk driver who crashed his car into the side of a car wash in Palm Court on 11 December.

The car damaged three vehicles that were queuing to be cleaned. The incident resulted in minor injuries to a woman who was in one of the cars at the time.

Witnesses on the scene alleged that the man was very drunk and the crash happened at high-speed.

Minnaar confirmed to Roodepoort Northsider that the man was found to have exceeded his alcohol limit and was arrested at the scene. “He was arrested and taken to a nearby police where he was charged with drunk driving,” he said.

Minnaar warned that the incident must be taken as a lesson by motorists. “This must serve as a warning to all motorists because we will be arresting and locking up all those found driving under the influence of alcohol, especially this festive season,” he said.
