A 33-year-old man was arrested on 7 December for dealing in stolen copper.
A Florida police constable was visiting second-hand shops and scrap-yards, checking whether they comply with the law, when he stopped at a scrap-yard in Maraisburg. He introduced himself and explained the reason for his visit. The owner acceded to his request to search the premises. Upon searching he discovered numerous bags containing copper cables. He called Telkom and Eskom, who identified the cables as theirs.
The owner was subsequently arrested and detained at the Roodepoort Police Station.
