I don’t often take to Facebook to rant, however, after my experience at Florida SAPS and in particular their detectives division, I feel I need to just let off some steam.
I needed to get some paper-work that my insurance company, Miway, was incapable of doing themselves so already I was irritated. Once at the police station you have to play the waiting game as there was only one person on duty to deal with car accidents etc.
So finally I am helped, only to be told to go to the detectives department in another building as that is where my file is. So off I go. Once again you stand around until someone notices you and you go through the whole story again, there is no big rush to help. A helpful young lady “looked” on the detective’s desk but no file.
Back downstairs, at which point I toss my diary on the table out of pure frustration. It is at this point that one of the detectives screams at me to take my bad manners and get out. I apologise yet he continues to scream at me and to tell me basically that I am a terrible person. I will admit that I over-reacted and said, “If I am such a bad person maybe I should shoot myself and the world would be a better place and he would not have to deal with ‘the likes of me’,” to which he responds, “Yes go and hang yourself”.
After all this, the file was not there and I had to go back to the police station where the file was eventually found and a copy of what I needed was made.
I always try very hard to be polite and show due respect to all humans no matter your status, but the way I was treated today makes me wonder where the respect for others has gone. I was frustrated, yes, I was irritated, yes, but I don’t think I deserved to be screamed at and basically told it would be a good idea to go and kill myself. I feel so sad and disheartened. Is this how they treat everyone who goes there?
