Clinic hosts open day

Residents came out in droves to attend clinic open day

The Davidsonville Clinic recently held an open day to remind residents of the various clinic services available to them.

Various government departments were invited to attend the open day, including Environmental Health Services, Social Development, Home Affairs, Sports and Recreation, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), Emergency Medical Services (EMS), the Local Drug Action Community Committee (LDAC) and an optometrist.

Free HIV testing as well as eye checks were done on the day. Information on the negative effects and health impact of illegal dumping was made available to the residents. The LDAC also had an information session where everyone present was informed about the devastating effects of drug abuse on the community. The Department of Home Affairs assisted residents with the registration of new births as well as other queries.

The councillor for Ward 71, René Benjamin, made sure she was available for the duration of the open day to have one-on-one meetings with the residents, enabling them to discuss any issues they had. She also requested the assistance of the Department of Social Development to re-establish the food garden at the clinic. “We planted some onions on the day, with other vegetables to follow. The custodians of the garden will be trained on the maintenance thereof,” René said.

The residents could make use of the clinic’s full services as well, and they were reminded that the clinic operates from Monday to Friday.

“I want to say thank you to Sister Hilda and her team, all other entities who attended and the residents of Davidsonville. The event was well attended, despite the rain,” René concluded.
