Honeydew CPF meeting held
HONEYDEW - CPF meeting held to discuss various issues in the area.
The monthly Honeydew CPF Sector 2 meeting was well attended by various security companies, residents’ associations, the Honeydew police Sector 2 manager and Metro police officials.
Sector 2 chairperson, John Baisley could not attend the meeting, but RiverWel Residents Association member, Neville Burnett stood in for him as chairperson.

The Metro police official for Ward 89 mentioned that speeding along Snelskaats Street and 9th Avenue, Devon Valley is a big problem. It was brought to his attention and he went to patrol those streets and during the time he was there, he managed to issue 80 tickets.
CPF Sector 2 public relations officer and Panorama Residents’ Association chairperson, Jon Rosenberg said that in the month of October, 66 drug-related arrests had been made.
A big issue raised at the meeting was the property next to Randridge Mall in Randpark Ridge where about 300 people live. It was established that the property is owned by a man who lives in Greece, who sub-divided the land to offer accommodation to people. The living conditions, however, are not ideal.

Allan Baudry, a resident who attended the meeting, said that he has seen a document that proves that the owner received permission in 1992 from the Roodepoort City Council to have people live here. The illegal issue that needs to be investigated is whether this property is zoned for high occupation. Baudry added that about four to eight people stay in one room.
Tana Cope, chairperson of the Welridge Residents Association said they have had break-ins in their area. The power of one property was also turned off. Baudry advised the chairpersons present at the meeting to place duct tape around the electricity meters as it would then be easy to see if the meter had been opened.
Beagle Watch representatives said that people should always make sure their alarms are in good working order, especially now that we are heading towards the festive season.
