Update: Truck driver to appear in court

Residents upset over continuous disregard of traffic offences committed at this intersection.

The truck driver who collided with 20-year-old ‘scooterist’ Hendrik van den Berg yesterday (25 October), will have to appear in court soon.

According to Metro Police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar, a docket for reckless and negligent driving has been opened against the driver and he will soon be subpoenaed to appear in court.

Residents and social media users have expressed their outrage about the constant traffic offences committed at this intersection (Generaal Pienaar Avenue/ Albertina Sisulu Road), and condemned the general attitude of truck drivers. They wanted to know what the authorities were going to do and pointed out that mere metres away from the spot where the accident took place, motorists are regularly pulled over by the Metro Police, but they fail to attend to the danger right under their noses.

Van den Berg is currently in an induced coma at the Milpark Hospital, at risk of having his leg amputated.
