Run on a golf course at night
RUIMSIG – Runners across the fitness spectrum enjoy the In-Reach @Ruimsig_Run.
There are many different ways to run; you could run on the road, in a park or perhaps on a beach.
You could even run over the grassy embankments of a golf course in the dark.
The In-Reach @Ruimsig_Run was held with great excitement at the Ruimsig Country Club on the evening of 20 October. In-Reach owner, Corné van Zyl said the 5km and 10km night run/walk events have been held bi-monthly at the club since February, making this the fifth event at the club and are held every other month at Jackal Creek Golf Estate.
“Our job is to grow the industry of running,” he said. “An event like this is fun and designed for everyone. We want to get people off the couch and become 5km walkers, then 5km runners, and so on.” The roughly 200 participants were all made to wear head torches, which reflected off beacons showing the route so that there would be no collisions, or anyone stumbling in the dark and getting lost.
“The grass on a golf course is soft so it is less strenuous on your feet but makes it harder to run,” said Michael Tsotetsi, who ran with his family and friends. Natalie Kassebaum and Sharlene Drew commented that they used to be fit and now were taking part in runs to get fit again.
Seugnet Miller ran with two friends. “We are doing this for fun, for adventure – it is not normal that you can run on a golf course at night,” she said.
In total, about R38 000-worth of prizes in flight tickets, diving courses, helicopter rides and other gifts were given to winners of the runs and lucky draws. Van Zyl added that in January In-Reach planned to start a night run at Kloofendal Nature Reserve.
