Construction of the new Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel is well underway and the school is expected to start operating in January next year.
Curro Holdings Limited have also appointed the executive head, Oriol Morgan, to lead the Academy. Morgan will use the remainder of the year to meet with staff and the wider school community in order to create a solid foundation for the beginning of the academic year.
She joined Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel from Curro Aurora where she was deputy executive head from 2007.
Already part of the Curro family, she brings along the Curro values of educational excellence, positive discipline, Christian ethics and creative thinking. She completed her B.Ed Honours at the University of Witwatersrand.
Chief operations officer (COO) of Curro Holdings, Andries Greyling, said he was very optimistic about the expansion of the group. The group’s goal was to have 200 schools on 80 campuses by 2020.
“We are very optimistic about our expansion, and the company will continue to grow at an accelerated pace. The aggressive growth momentum won’t be stopped when it reaches its vision with 90 000 pupils,” he said.
He explained that it was all about location and the growing demand for proper schooling in certain areas.
“Curro has a presence in all nine provinces of South Africa with the majority of schools situated in Gauteng. A new school in the Western Cape, Curro Sitari in Sitari Country Estate in Somerset West, opened its doors in 2016,” he said.
