National Pasta Day

Pasta lovers celebrate #NationalPastaDay

Pasta lovers – October is your chance to celebrate!

October is Pasta Month and 17 October is annually celebrated as National Pasta Day.

Pasta – a type of noodle – is a traditional Italian food with the first reference to it being from Sicily in 1154. It is typically made from an unleavened dough of durum wheat flour mixed with water and eggs. It is then formed into sheets or various shapes. Cooked pasta is used in a variety delicious dishes.

Pasta can be divided in two categories – fresh or dried.

Fresh pasta was originally produced by hand, but many fresh pasta products are now available in supermarkets and are being commercially produced by large-scale machines.

Pasta comes in all sorts, and all shapes – there are 310 specific forms of pasta that are known by various names (and there is documented proof of over 1 300 such names!). The names of specific pasta shapes and types vary according to the locale in Italy that they come from, for example, Cavatelli is known by 28 different names.

You can learn more about pasta by visiting the National Pasta Association’s webpage at https://ilovepasta.org.

To celebrate, cook up a bowl of your favourite pasta, invite some friends and family over and enjoy a meal together.
