Henry Prinsloo, who was sentenced on 24 August to ten years’ imprisonment, of which he only has to serve six, was back in the dock yesterday to apply to appeal his sentence.
Prinsloo was found guilty of manslaughter after he crashed into a police vehicle while under the influence of alcohol last year. Two of the three policemen in the vehicle perished in the accident.
When Magistrate Delize Smith asked him if he wanted to appeal, he said “Yes”, and then asked for legal aid. Prinsloo then attempted to discuss the case with Smith, but she told him twice – firmly – that an application for leave to appeal was not the appropriate time to do so.
He will appear in court again on 31 October.
