Thousands of cupcakes for cancer awareness
MULDERSDRIFT - Almost 3000 cupcakes lit up Cradlestone Mall on 24 September.
After 70 malls participated in the fifth annual National Cupcake Day, almost 180 000 cupcakes were sold, raising close to R1.8 million.
At R10 a cupcake, the charity, Cupcakes of Hope, raises awareness of families in need of medical assistance and hoped to reach its goal of raising more than last year’s R1.5 million.
Cradlestone Mall was one of the participating malls. On 24 September, 2 700 cupcakes were up for sale just inside the mall’s main entrance; the cupcakes were baked by volunteers, aptly named, Cupcake Angels.
These angels were present at the mall, all dressed in pink, selling the cupcakes. Sanita Wiid, co-coordinator on the day, said last year the stall at Cradlestone Mall made R23 000 and she had no doubt it would be equal this time around.
“We are seeing such great support this year,” she said.
