It was an emotional day at Horizon View Primary School as they bid farewell to one of their own. Grade 7 pupil Nicole Ndou passed away last week after her organs had failed. At the memorial service the school held for her, the 14-year-old’s classmates recited poetry while the junior choir serenaded those in attendance. Family spokesperson and Nicole’s uncle, Thabiso Manyama said he will miss Nicole’s smile and beautiful personality.

“This period has been difficult for the family and we are hoping and praying today’s service will heal everyone. Nicole was a loving and caring girl who enjoyed cooking.
She was a crazy person but in a good way, and we loved to tease each other,” said Thabiso.
Nicole’s classmate Bophelo Nkutha said she was hurt by the passing of her friend and dedicated a poem to Nicole.
“She sat next to me in class and we were friends. I still can’t believe she has left us, it just wasn’t her time. Only a memory is a poem I am dedicating to her,” she said.
Her class teacher Bridgette Pitje said her pupils have been writing poetry and singing as a way to come to terms with the passing of their classmate.

“It has been a long and exhausting week for us. The atmosphere in the class has been sad and the pupils are not taking the passing of Nicole very well. I feel like a mother who has lost a child because as a teacher, all my pupils are my children. When the pupils first heard about Nicole being in hospital, they collected money to buy her flowers. Nicole was a sweet and quiet child with a naughty smile, which I’ll sorely miss,” she said.
