Update: Stabbed dog doing good
Spider looking good after two hour surgery
Spider, the dog that was stabbed by an alleged house robber yesterday (20 September) in Allens Nek, is recovering.
Spider was taken to the veterinarian in an ER24 ambulance. It was found he’d sustained a massive laceration that is believed to be the size of a panga-type knife.
During his two-hour surgery, it was found the object used to stab him lacerated many major organs such as the lungs and liver. It also penetrated the diaphragm. Spider’s heart was missed but the major vessels of the aorta were caught. He received two units of blood and was in a stable but critical condition.
Today, Spider is up and about. He is off oxygen and was walking around the vet’s garden.
The veterinarian is happy with Spider’s progress but will monitor him closely over the next few days as he still has two chest drains in.
