It was a mad-hatter kind of day with colourful, feathered, glittered and crazy hats paraded on the school grounds of Arrows of Destiny Christian Academy and Agapeland Nursery School.
All the pupils had to come to school on 1 September with hats they made themselves for a hat parade to celebrate the first day of spring. “It is a time of renewal when our country comes alive with colour and creativity,” said school principal, Jeanette Porter.
Apart from creating hats alongside their parents, the pupils also had to decorate their classrooms depicting springtime and what it means to them. “Every culture is represented in all the pupils’ handiwork through colour and theme,” said Porter.
She added that choosing the winners of the handmade hats was a very difficult task. She said the pupils had really outdone themselves and that the solar eclipse on the day was not the only reason to be up and about.
Music played and a walkway between all the pupils was created for the hat parade. Some pupils were shy to walk the runway, but others were brave enough to do some dance moves.
