Every year, members of RiverWel Resident’s Association (RWRA) gather together to help make their greenbelt a cleaner and healthier environment. Kevin Thomson, the RWRA chairperson, started the clean-up by thanking all the willing volunteers who took time out on a Sunday to help clean their environment.
“We welcome our incoming Ward 126 Councillor David Brand and express our greatest appreciation towards our outgoing councillor, Mike Tonkin,” added Thomson.
Families, children and even four-legged furry friends joined the clean-up, filling bag after bag with debris and general trash. The Cockspur Bridge on Cockspur Road services a large majority of RWRA and covers part of the Klein Jukskei River. “We collected a lot of rubbish but it was definitely less than last year,” said RWRA committee member, Neville Burnett.
David Brand, said, “It is great to see community members coming together to make their environment healthy and clean. A thriving community is made up of proactive residents, willing and ready to make their surroundings better for the whole,” said Brand.
