From Boskop to Barcelona
HONEYDEW – Pupil of Boskop Primary School furthers his soccer talent in Durban soccer tournament.
He is so young, but already he has such big dreams. Charlton Francis, Grade 7 pupil from Boskop Primary School is well on his way to becoming a soccer star.
Francis and his physical education teacher, Lucas Magagane, went to Durban this past school holiday for the Bill Stewart Provincial Soccer Tournament where Francis played in 18 matches as a left back for the U13 Protea team. Magagane explained that he was a central coach at the tournament and chose 30 boys (U12 and U13) from the Johannesburg area to go to Durban.
Francis plays for the 1st soccer team of his school and wishes to one day play for Barcelona as they are his favourite team. “My favourite player is Lionel Messi,” said Francis. He said that going to Durban and playing in the tournament was such a great experience and he was surprised to be chosen.
“I started playing probably when I started walking,” laughed Francis. He said that soccer makes him feel as if he is in a different world. This young boy from Cosmo City wishes to thank his friends and family for their support. Magagane said that Francis’s success depends on him and how hard he works on achieving his dream.
