Spokesperson for the Honeydew Police, Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs warns residents that theft out of motor vehicles is currently a huge concern to the Honeydew Police.
“The Honeydew SAPS appeals to all drivers not to leave any property inside the vehicle. This includes the boot of the vehicle,” said Jacobs. She added that gyms are currently being targeted in the mornings between 4.30am and 7am and in the afternoons between 5pm and 8pm. People going to the gym at any time should take extra care.
“Do not leave your laptop, cellphone, handbag or any other property in the boot of your motor vehicle when parked, take it with you at all times.” She added that GPS devices should also be removed from parked vehicles.
“Before leaving the vehicle, ensure that it is properly locked,” she said. It is important to stand next to your vehicle and ensure that it has indeed locked when using a remote locking device as signal jam devices could be used.
