Police warn about hijackings

HONEYDEW – Hijacking is on the rise and police warn about important signs to be on the lookout for.

Spokesperson for Honeydew Police, Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs warned residents about an increase in incidents in hijacking and provided some precautionary measures to incorporate into your daily driving routines.

WO Jacobs said that motorists are urged to be very careful when arriving or leaving their residences. “Be on the lookout for any suspicious persons in your street or any movement at your gate,” said Jacobs. She added that where possible ensure that you have adequate light at your entrance and that there are no obstructions, for example big shrubs.

“When approaching your street, look in your mirrors for any vehicle following you and rather drive around the block to make sure you are not being followed, especially when you are returning from the shops or the airport.” She added that as soon as you have entered your property it is important to immediately close and lock the gate before off-loading from your vehicle.
