Helping other matric pupils study in better learning environments, Trinityhouse Little Falls High School prefect Cayley Cammell, under her Outreach portfolio, decided to reach out a colour-powdered hand to the pupils of Matla Combined School in Kromdraai.
Last week, Trinityhouse’s sports field was covered in colour that pupils, parents, friends and even teachers threw at one another, colouring their white shirts and clean faces in an array of different colours.
No one was spared. Not even unaware photographers on the sidelines.
For R50 a ticket you could start a powder fight and reminisce about your childhood days when you were covered in mud – and you help a school in need. The charity colour run was indeed a success.
“The matrics at Matla Combined School sent us a letter appealing for help with their Matric Camp. These children all come from disadvantaged backgrounds and most of them do not have electricity at home and they live in crowded shacks so studying for their exams is very hard. The dedicated teachers at Matla school clear out a few classroom and the Matric pupils sleep at the school over their [preliminary] and final exams. They give them extra lessons over the weekends,” Karen Cammell, Cayley’s mother, deputy principal at the Trinityhouse Preparatory School and co-organiser, explained.
She said the Trinityhouse and Matla have been partners for years.
“They do such an amazing job at Matla. They deserve to be supported and I will proudly support anyone who wants to help themselves,” she said.
The colour run, sponsored by Monument Toyota, Remax, Renico Construction and Khanya Resort, raised R15 000 that will go towards buying Matla’s matrics mattresses to sleep on and food for the duration of the camp.
