Super rugby at Allen Glen
ALLEN'S NEK – Allen Gen High School's rugby is on the rise with brilliant results this week.
Rugby teams at Allen Glen High School have two huge wins under their belts.
The U16 A-team won the Lions Series. Coach of the team and head of the sports department at the school, Hennie van Vuuren explained that teams from the East of Joburg, central Joburg and the West as far as Carletonville all competed for the trophy.
The team played against Hoërskool Goudrif from Germiston in the quarter-final and smashed them 45–5.
They then beat Hoërskool Roodepoort 45–20 in the semi-final and brought an excellent game of rugby to the final on 23 July against Hoërskool President from Ridgeway, winning 45–5. JG Spies is the other coach for this team.
Not only did Allen Glen win the Lions Series, but their senior rugby team also managed to beat Hoërskool Roodepoort for the first time ever in the school’s history.
This was in a Clover Series game on 27 July. The game was played at Hoërskool Bastion in Krugersdorp and the team won 23–10.
