The Charterhouse School’s community celebrated the culmination of the Blanket Drive and Jerseys for Jozi campaigns in support of the Johannesburg Mini Council.
Pupils, parents, grandparents and teachers knitted up a storm as Nyakallo Peete and Natalie Castanheira, two Grade 7 Johannesburg mini councillors, drove the campaign during school assemblies. Families were also encouraged to ‘spring clean’ their wardrobes and bring in any jerseys, scarves, gloves and beanies that were not needed or worn anymore.
“All the hard work has paid off. The Johannesburg Mini Council collectively distributed over 10 000 blankets to 12 organisations, including the Chaylil Foundation, The Grace Factory, Chubby Chums, Nashua Children’s Foundation and Woodrock,” said Lynn Davis, head of department for Grade 6 and Grade 7.
“This winter, many people and animals will be a little warmer, thanks to the kindness and generosity of all the schools and families,” Davis added.
