Thieve ready to steal hearts at Rumours
Belville rock band ready to launch their new tunes at Rumours Lounge.

The members of Thieve are revved up and ready to steal hearts and entertain at their album launch at Rumours Lounge this coming Saturday, 9 April.
The Record caught up with lead singer and front man Andrew Davenport ahead of the launch to hear what the audience — the fans and the new ears — can expect.
“What fans and the general audience must know is that the songs on this album weren’t selected from a pool of songs or arranged in any specific way,” he responded to the question. By that, he doesn’t mean no trouble went into recording or producing the album but rather that it wasn’t crafted around a specific sound or specific message, he explained.
“We didn’t try to play it safe in any which way; this album is raw and pure, in a sense.”
Davenport said the upcoming album, Extra Ordinary, was recorded over 10 months and the band had the luxury of using Pierre Greeff’s (of Die Heuwels Fantasties fame) holiday house in Vleesbaai to do the majority of the work. The songs were largely recorded in Vleesbaai. The break between releasing new albums was to allow each member of the band time to perform in their other projects. Davenport is part of aKing and does freelance advertising work to ‘keep busy’, not that it seems he needs it. While on a trip to Barcelona with fellow member and roomie, Fred den Hartog, Davenport said inspiration struck to get the ball rolling with a new album. They attended the Priva Vera Sound festival there.
“Some of the songs were written nearly four years ago, we had to hustle to make space in everyone’s diaries to produce this album,” he said.
The drive to get it done speaks volumes of Thieve’s dedication as a band, who has in the past few years only ‘sporadically’ gigged here and there, he said.
What’s in the pipeline for aKing? An EP might be down the road this year, but let’s focus on one thing at a time, he said.
“Extra Ordinary is to give listeners a taste of what we’ve been up to over the last four years — I’m really excited for you to have a listen,” he concluded.
Are you ready for it? Thieve will launch their album, Extra Ordinary, at Rumours Lounge in Weltevreden Park on Saturday 9 April, starting at 7pm.
