Photos: One dead, baby critical after accident

Baby airlifted to hospital.

One man has died and a baby had to be airlifted in a critical condition after an motor vehicle accident at about 1.45pm on Clarendon Drive.

According to a source on the scene a man in a Ford Laser allegedly attempted to make a U-turn when another motorist, travelling in a BMW towards Roodepoort with a baby on board, hit him head-on. The driver of the Ford Laser was declared dead on the scene. The baby was stabilised before being airlifted by the Netcare 911 helicopter. The driver of the BMW miraculously survived and came off unscathed due to the vehicle’s airbags

ER24, Metro Police and Roodepoort Police were all on the scene. The accident will be investigated.
