The volunteers of the Fleurhof branch of the ANC are calling on community members to make a difference.
The branch was once again busy this weekend and more than 20 dedicated members of the community organized a clean up campaign in the community.
This is part of their continued efforts to keep clean and to help the community during the Pikitup strike which has affected refuse collection.
With the help of Disaster Management, the volunteers went door to door collecting refuse bags.
This is not the first time the branch has organized a clean up campaign.
Under the banner Cleanest to Clean Up, community members took it upon themselves to clean the school grounds of Fleurhof Primary School earlier this year.
“The campaign cleanest to clean up is all good to go. We take pride in our children and their cleanliness and safe environment. The school requires serious intervention and we took it upon ourselves to do something. On Saturday we had 28 volunteers who participated in our campaign and looking forward to see the number increasing,” said.
Gugulethu Khumalo, the deputy secretary of the Fleurhof branch said they needed more volunteers who were willing to share a bit of their time and keep the community clean.
“The Pikitup strike happened at a time when we were organizing more cleanup campaigns in the area. So we have decided to get together and do our bit for where we live,” he said.
For those who want to volunteer their time can contact Gugulethu Khumalo 078 492 6239.
