Residents from Constantia Kloof are fed up with the dangerous intersection at Constantia Drive and Jim Fouché Road, which is not receiving attention from the authorities.
This busy intersection has only stop signs on Constantia Drive and Wilhelmina Avenue, which means that motorists driving on Jim Fouché do not stop at the intersection.

By 30 March more than 275 residents had already signed the petition in the hope of convincing Joburg Roads Agency to install traffic lights.
Frik Prinsloo from Constantia Kloof North Residents Against Crime (CKNRAC) said he went to several complexes and residential areas to hand out pamphlets and to convince people to sign the petition.
“I am sure this is the most dangerous intersection in the Roodepoort area without traffic lights,” he said. He further explained that traffic congestion were usually exacerbated during peak hours.
The petition can be signed online.
According to this petition, residents were informed in September 2015 that a budget for an upgrade and installation of signalling had been approved, yet nothing has since transpired.
Ward 85 Councillor Carl Mann explained that he advised the residents to follow the process and take the petition to the office of the Speaker at the Joburg City Council.
He said residents have been battling for more than six years to get this intersection sorted out. “This problem should have been solved by now. It is about time we get something done,” he explained.
Councillor Mann further explained that he met a resident who was involved in a car accident at this intersection who was unable to walk due to the accident.
JRA spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers confirmed that the entity was acutely aware of the concerns raised by the community with regards to this intersection.
She said JRA traffic engineers conducted a comprehensive study which included traffic counts.
“Jim Fouché and Constantia Kloof Drive are problematic due to the gradient and angle of the intersection, and consequently in order to achieve safe, efficient and convenient movement of people and goods, it is necessary to undertake geometric upgrades before the intersection can be signalised,” she said.
“Notice to tender work on the geometric improvements has already been advertised. We therefore, anticipate work to be undertaken in the second half of 2016,” she added.
