Municipal Open Day at Davidsonville

Various departments visit Davidsonville to deliver services

The City of Joburg’s (COJ) Social Development Department hosted a social service open day at the Davidsonville Recreational Centre on Friday (11 March).

The objective of hosting the exposition was to highlight the collaboration of the social development department with other stakeholders in the provision of social welfare services.

This was a response to the issues raised during the Ntirhisano and Bua Le Sechaba, a programme of community engagement by the provincial and local government.

Issues that came out during this programme concerning Davidsonville are a sense of being neglected by government, lack of service delivery in the area, lack of social services, drugs and alcohol abuse, youth unemployment and poverty.

The exposition will showcase the work of COJ, social development and its partners in the fight against alcohol and drug abuse, poverty, deprivation and its leading efforts in promoting human welfare and dignity.

COJ’s Social Development Department’s acting regional manager Rodney Mudzuli said the event was to promote social services programmes available in Davidsonville and Region C.

“We are also promoting inter-sectoral collaboration with the social welfare cluster and to promote partnership with public and private companies. We have to work together with these companies to render services to the community,” he said.

The various departments exhibited and presented the services they provide for the community.
