Make a pledge to the Earth

RADIOKOP – Pupils get ready to participate in and create awareness for Earth Hour.

Charterhouse Preparatory School Grade 4 and 5 pupils made eco-friendly pledges to create awareness about Earth Hour, a worldwide event that encourages individuals to switch off all their lights on 19 March from 8.30pm to 9.30pm to help save planet Earth.

The pupils took time to record their Earth Hour pledges on video. The pledges came after the pupils watched the 2016 Earth Hour video with their teachers to learn more about climate change. The pupil’s pledges were also written on large rocks to illustrate their intentions.

Natalie Pearl and Tumi Pelesa, who are both currently on a learnership programme with Charterhouse school, had the opportunity to take the videos with the pupils. “Mrs Pearl and I encouraged the children to make sustainable pledges and to look at Earth Hour as an every day commitment to save the planet. We encouraged them to make simple yet effective pledges.” said Pelesa.

“The Earth Hour 2016 video encouraged the children to be a part of positive change so that they may one day look back and be proud of their achievements,” expressed the head of department for Grade 4 and 5, Ineshree Naidoo.
