Our water is back, is yours?

Reports coming in about water supply being restored. Burst pipe to blame.

After water outages affected a few residents and businesses in Witpoortjie, Joburg Water’s quick intervention had it restored within a matter of hours.

Earlier this afternoon the Record reported water shortages in specifically Ham, Haynes and Generaal Pienaar streets, with other areas possibly having been affected. Caxton West Rand, where the Record is situated, was affected at around 10.30am and other reports of outages soon reached the newsroom.

It was reported to Joburg Water through twitter and Region C’s depot manager, Gert Jacobs, committed to finding the cause. He suspected it was a leak due to a burst water pipe, but sent a technical team from Hamberg to Witpoortjie to investigate.

At first, they struggled to find the cause. Residents then reported it to West Suburbs Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch (WSRNW) who decided to get involved in searching for the fault.

By 2.30pm this afternoon, Caxton West Rand’s water supply was restored. Jacobs said around three blocks, in the end, were affected and supply should be restored. Some residents have confirmed this.
