Problems persist at church haven

The defiance of the inhabitants of the haven has become out of control.

A complaint was made by a resident, Lerato Molepo, about excessive noise and safety concerns at the Haven Assembly in Progress Road. This apparently is not the only complaint made about similar issues at the haven.

The pastor, Daniel Doreward, and his assistant, Lara Cooney, say that the home is at capacity and at the mercy of a few trouble makers who are repeatedly defiant and worrisome. “No one is denying that things are not right,” says the pastor, admitting to the faults of the haven.

The situation is, however, difficult as the defiance of the inhabitants of the haven has become out of control with not even police able to effectively help. All measures put in place by the caretakers seem to be unsuccessful despite best efforts.

“We don’t really want to close down,” says Cooney, as the haven has had a positive impact on many lives and continues to exist as a shelter for those with no where else to go, some of which are just children.”People show up at the gates with their children and we can’t turn them away,” adds Cooney. The haven, which was established in 1979, has only recently been having these behavioural difficulties. One of the major problems is that the haven receives no external support and is thus struggling to keep things under control.”

The haven intends to send apology letters to all those adversely affected and wants to install a front entrance with proper security. Any donations towards this effort will be of great assistance.
