Best homes for those in need of help

MULDERSDRIFT – A tour by community leaders at Legae La Nnete Re-integration Centre and Refilwe Community Projects.

Refilwe Community Project and Legae La Nnete Re-integration Centre are two great examples of thriving initiatives in the Muldersdrift area.

Because of that, the spokesperson for the Muldersdrift Community Action Group (MCAG) Gilbert Hickman, together with his team, will be touring around the two projects on 20 February to find out more about the great work that they are doing.

Hickman said both of these projects are well worth the investment.

“We see first-hand the amazing work they are doing in our area. They truly are touching lives and we encourage anyone who would like to get involved to do so,” he said.

Founded in 1991, initially as a health-care clinic, Refilwe Community Project is a Christian community development initiative with a strong focus on child care, community development and skills upliftment through education and mentorship.

Kate Piscator, office administrator at Refilwe, explained that the project’s mission is to provide a loving Christian family environment for orphaned and vulnerable children through the God Parents Programme and El Roi Baby Home.

“We also have a preschool and outreach programme where we assist our surrounding communities by providing their children with opportunities to thrive spiritually, socially, emotionally and materially,” she said.

She added, “Our community and skills development programmes focus on promoting small business development to strengthen families in our area.”

Piscator explained that Refilwe children are taught about the importance of having a strong work ethic.

“We also provide potential job opportunities and training through our horticultural skills development programmes,” she said.

Not far from Refilwe is Legae La Nnete Re-integration Centre, a rehabilitation home for men dealing with substance abuse and other drug-related problems.

Gordon Dewar, director of Legae La Nnete, explained that Legae La Nnete has been operating since April 2010 and housed up to 24 men.
