Charterhouse has seats on the Joburg Mini Council

RADIOKOP – Two Grade 6 pupils have been selected to represent Charterhouse School.

Charterhouse School will be represented by their Grade 6 pupils Nyakallo Peete and Natalie Castanheira on the Johannesburg Mini Council. This council is made up of 80 representatives from more than 40 schools. It is a non-profit organisation that is involved in many community projects throughout the year.

According to Lynn Davis, Charterhouse head of department for Grade 6 and 7, the council was first formed in 1972 with the main objectives of leadership, outreach and community development. Grade 6 pupils volunteer to be on the council. Fellow pupils and teachers then vote for the top six applicants. These six pupils write a motivational letter and are interviewed before two representatives are chosen.

The councillors meet once a month on a Sunday, at a ‘mix ‘n meet’ held at various schools around Joburg. There first project will be the collection of Easter eggs, which supports over 110 charities.
