One dead and more than 20 injured in collision
Numerous injured in this morning's taxi accident.
One person died and more than 20 people were injured in a taxi collision this morning.
The accident occurred on the Corlett Avenue and Randfontein Road intersection.
This resulted in the Randfontein road section heading towards the Roodepoort CBD to be closed.
The Quantum taxi and Toyota Venture collided when the Quantum skipped a red traffic light while turning into Corlett Avenue.
The taxi rolled several times before its momentum was stopped by a traffic light.
The Venture was on it’s way to drop off young children at crèche and school.
Dr. Neudecker from Leratong Hospital, who was first on the scene as she witnessed the incident, helped stabalise the patients while she awaited assistance.
Several of the children from the Venture were treated on scene and rushed to hospital for further treatment.
Another passenger, presumed to be the driver, was airlifted by Netcare 911 to another hospital while another young child who suffered critical injuries was airlifted by ER24.
In the taxi, several occupants sustained moderate to severe injuries and some had to be stabalised on scene.
The taxi had to be lifted as one patient was trapped underneath it and died on the way to Leratong Hospital.
Several members of the Western Suburbs Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch comforted young children who were still waiting for their parents to pick them up as the scene was cleared.
