Hollard Daredevil Run

Vernon continues to stay strong with the support of his work colleagues.

Vernon Olivier, a 31 year old employee at the company tells his story about his cancer.

Vernon went for a checkup at the doctor because he had an infection. After tests it was found that Vernon actually had testicular cancer, which later developed into prostate and pancreatic cancer. With no previous history of cancer in Vernon’s family, this diagnosis was baffling and “a shock”, he says.

Despite all odds, Vernon continues to stay strong with the support of his work colleagues who he says, “keep him sane”. He is currently in remission and has been since October 2015. ” I hope that in five years time I will be given the all clear”, he says.

The cancer had many negative effects on Vernon, the greatest of which was losing his ability to have children.

With much bravery and a positive attitude Vernon managed to overcome his cancer, his only message for men is, “Go get tested. If you are young and you want children and a family, go as soon as possible to get tested for prostate and testicular cancer.”
