ALLEN'S NEK – Allen Glen teachers show their pupils just what happens when hard work and diligence come together.

Allen Glen High School  teachers received top awards at the Gauteng District 12 awards in January.

The school was more than proud to boast that they left the event having won six awards – computer applications technology (Cat), consumer studies, design, electrical technology, history and mathematical literacy. The teachers were absolutely thrilled and honoured that their hard work culminated in their pupils’ successes and recognition they so rightly deserved.

Some of the teachers shared their sentiments about how they managed to achieve this success and how they aim to keep up the winning momentum.

Subject head for mathematical literacy, Leon du Toit said that it was the fourth time he has received the award for top educator for mathematical literacy in the district. He explained that on the night he was surrounded by other great teachers who brought with them a great energy. His hopes for the year is another great academic year and to remain one of the top schools in the area.

Cat teacher, Jane Kruger said that she received the award for best teacher for the subject in the district. She divulged that she has been a teacher for the past 20 years and every day she encourages her pupils to just live life. It is the second time she has won the award. She believes that every child should have a background in the subject as it feeds into most career paths.

Electrical technology teacher, Harry Breytenbach said that he has won the award eight times and the recognition never loses its novelty. “At Allen Glen we work hard and along with that, we have great leadership at the school,” said Breytenbach.

Consumer studies teacher, Cindy Buys shared that she has been a teacher for the past 14 years. She said that she wants pupils who once were uncomfortable in the kitchen, to leave her class confident.
