Wanted suspect arrested after stealing vehicle without fuel

Suspect had lengthy record.

A motorist got a nasty surprise last Thursday after his vehicle had ran out of fuel in Florida Glen.

At around 3pm he was forced to leave his VW Golf at the corner N1 North and the Gordon Road off ramp and had to walk to the closest service station. On his way back from the service station, he was surprised to see a bakkie towing his vehicle. He tried to stop the driver as he was a few metres away from the bakkie but the bakkie did not stop. He ran after the bakkie but instead the driver accelerated and he lost sight of it.

On Saturday at around 6pm a warrant officer from Johannesburg Flying Squad acted upon information received from members of the public which led to the arrest of two suspects. It is alleged that one suspect confessed that they towed the car and took it to a third suspect who is still at large.

One suspect was already out on bail for various cases ranging from possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of drugs, theft of gas bottles and house breaking and theft and there is a warrant for his arrest. The two, aged 27 and 29, will appear at Roodepoort magistrate court soon.
