Progress protests: The way forward
MMC for Housing must come to the party.

Protesting on Progress Road will cease for now after Roodepoort Police called a meeting with all stakeholders last night.
According to DA Councillor for the ward, Gert Niemand the community, a representative for Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Housing Dan Bovu, Western Surburbs Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch (WSRNW) as well as the ANC Councillor Sebelo Ngcana were among those in attendance to discuss the way forward.
“The community’s grievances are the housing they have been promised two years ago by Bovu, their unhappiness with him not coming to address them, the lack of lighting which leads to crime, sanitation and electricity. And I understand. Their grievances are valid,” said Niemand.

Members of the police also pointed out that the inaccessibility to the informal settlement is not conducive to patrolling and that emergency service vehicles could not enter in case of an emergency.
The residents allegedly have been promised temporary electricity but they said if Bovu does not make a commitment to meet with them within the next week, they will take to the streets again.
