CMaths geniuses conquer San Francisco maths competition

ZANDSPRUIT – It's only the start for the two brilliant CMaths students.

Two brilliant maths students Didinthle Malebane (8) and Koketso Ramorola (8) came back from San Francisco on 15 January.

The girls who are excelling in Grade 9 maths attended the Pama Awards in San Francisco on 29 December and represented South Africa against the best in the world – they were both placed third and won bronze medals.

The girls tried to raise funds in November so that they could travel with their parents but unfortunately that did not happen fast enough.

They both however, did enjoy the trip, “I had so much fun, I enjoyed staying at the hotel and going to the South African Embassy in Los Angeles,” said Ramorola. Her mother Lebogang Ramorola was very proud of her daughter, “She is the first one in our family to go overseas, I am very happy she did well in the competition,” said Lebogang.

Malebane’s mother Lerato Malebane was also beaming with joy at her daughter’s accomplishments, “I don’t even know what to say, I am so proud of my baby girl,” said Lerato.

The girls did, however, come across a problem when their visas expired on 29 December. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it resulted in them staying an extra week in San Francisco while their documents were being renewed.

Their CMaths teacher Alfred Mkhabela is also very proud of them, “CMaths is just the start for them, they have a bright future ahead,” he said. Their success is because of their hard work and dedication, their parents and their teacher. Mkhabela would also like to thank Realeboga Pre-School in Zandspruit for letting the girls use their school for their lessons twice a week for the last three years.
