Help Nordic breeds find a home

Saving Nordic breeds is a calling for this organisation that needs help

With pets being regularly abandoned and animal organisations such as Community Led Animal Welfare (Claw), Roodepoort SPCA and Friends of Rescued Animals (Fora) having to rescue animals, the load can be immense.

However, a new organisation has decided to step up and assist the organisation.

Nordic Rescue SA NPC is a non-profit organisation that specializes in the rescue and re-homing of huskies and other Nordic breeds of dogs.

The organisation has developed a rescue programme to accommodate unwanted, abandoned and very often abused dogs.

“The dogs we have dogs taken into our care receive veterinary treatment, are sterilized, vaccinated, dewormed and micro-chipped before re-homing takes place,” said Strubens Valley resident Elke du Bruyn who is the founder of the organisation.

One of the members from the organisation is Leana Smit from Witpoortjie.

Her love and passion for rescuing Nordic dogs led her to the organisation.

She currently oversees projects that assist with donations and sponsorship for the organisation.

Although the organisation is fairly new, it already has facilities in Randfontein where they are currently holding 34 dogs.

“We would like to approach companies for assistance and donations. Our running costs are extremely high to maintain the upkeep of huskies and we rely on sponsorship and donations from the public,” said Smit.

For more information on the organisation or if you would like to donate, contact 082-927-4222.
