Young swimming champion represents South Africa

NORTHCLIFF – Matthew Goslin holds 20 gold and silver medals at the age of 15.

At the age of 15, Grade 10 pupil Matthew Goslin holds 20 swimming championship medals.

Goslin, a pupil at Northcliff High School, represented South Africa at the Cana Zone 3 Swimming Championships in Uganda in November last year.

He won eight gold and six silver medals as well as the Swimmer of the Championship trophy.

His coach Anne-Marie Groenewald said he also represented South Africa at the Cana Zone 4 Swimming Championship in Angola also in 2015.

“He bagged four gold and two silver medals,” said Groenewald.

His selection for Cana Zone 4 and Cana Zone 3 Championships were from Swimming South Africa

Goslin, a Krugersdorp resident, is a member of Linrand Swimming Club.

His coach Groenewald has her Protea colours for swimming coaching and she was a head coach for the Sydney 2000 Paralympics as well as head coach for the All Africa Games and the World Youth Games in Moscow.

Groenewald said Goslin started training with her at the age of eight.

He also plays cricket and hockey.

“He has represented Southern Gauteng in the U16 hockey team and played provincial cricket in primary school,” said Groenewald.

She said swimming takes up most of Goslin’s time and this is what he had to concentrate on.
