2015 memorable events
ROODEPOORT – Another year filled with entertainment and fun has ended – here is a recap of some of the events that took place in 2015.
This year was filled with various entertaining and exciting events that took place in and around the Roodepoort area. We have selected a few of these events that were packed with glamour and excitement. Here is a recap the year’s events:
More than 300 couples enjoyed Valentine’s Day this year at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden. This is the fifth year this memorable event took and it has been promised that next year’s event will be even better.
The South African Riding for the disabled Association (Sarda) hosted a family fun day on 21 February in Ruimsig. People could pack a picnic basket and have a day out in the sun with the whole family. Pony rides for the little ones were also available.
The annual SA Sweet and Snack Expo drew a large crowd of food lovers and guests to Silverstar Casino, Muldersdrift, between 21 and 24 May. The expo saw about 58 retailers presenting their wares to residents, ranging from delicious cupcakes, chocolates, to savoury meats and wines. Guests were spoiled for choice.
On 11 May, mothers were honoured at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden in Poortview with a Mother’s Day concert. The event brought a fun-filled day of music and dance for the whole family. The opening act was Henry van Dyk who is known as the uncrowned prince of Afrikaans romance music. Van Dyk opened the arena with love songs from his album titled, Laat die Liefde Leef.
Hospice Wits celebrated Father’s Day on 21 June at the Ruimsig Country Club, with delectable cuisine, exquisite wine and toe-tapping entertainment. Jason Greer entertained the crowd as the MC and Karen Fereira and Lee Scott ensured the crowds could enjoy the sounds of beautiful music.
The MTN Foundation celebrated women’s month by bringing women, who are in leadership in government departments, closer to the ordinary women on 7 August. The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Communications Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams and CEO of Seshego Hospital Kholofelo, Oakfield Farm, in Muldersdrift.
One of the biggest cancer fundraisers – Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer hosted South Africa’s fourth National Cupcake Day and raised R1 501 240 at 70 different shopping malls across South Africa for children with cancer.
Cupcakes were sold at Cresta Shopping Centre, Clearwater Mall, Fourways Mall, Cradlestone Mall, Fontainebleau Village Shopping Centre and Key West Shopping Centre.
The SA Bachelor and Bachelorette 2015 finals hosted a Gala Dinner at the Silverstar Casino, Muldersdrift, on 7 November. CopperStone Promotions hosted VIP guests at the glamorous casino’s ballroom to celebrate and crown the fifth SA Bachelor and Bachelorette for 2015. The winners this year were Linden resident Wayne Stafford and Samantha Eaton.
