ROODEPOORT – The chronicles of sewage woes, what residents had to endure.
With the year coming towards a swift end we not only recall the good that came out of it, we also remember the less desirable aspects like sewage leaks in our neighbourhoods.
In January, the residents of Ruimsig were hit with a foul blow. The Crocodile River was contaminated by sewage, a severe environmental disaster as many fish died due to the contaminated water: Poison in the Crocodile River.

In August, residents of Weltevreden Park endured sewage melancholy, when a sewage pipe leaked into the Klein Jukskei River. Had it been attended to sooner it would have just been a maintenance expenditure. However, it turned into a capital expenditure which was quoted to cost about half million rand to sort out: Sewage leak in Weltevreden.
Weltevreden Park residents could rest easy in September knowing that the pipe causing the pollution was being attended to: Sewage leak repaired.
