Mike Tonkin wishes Ward 126 a joyous festive season
WARD 126 – Mike Tonkin reflects over achievements made this year in Ward 126.
We – I say ‘we’, because in the endeavour to improve the lives of all the residents of Ward 126, the ward councillor finds it so important to rely on input from all residents living therein.
The fact that road infrastructure has improved by the resurfacing of certain major roads in the ward, has greatly improved current traffic flows.
In addition, the installation of new water pipes by Joburg Water has also decreased the number of pipe bursts that have previously occurred with the old water pipe system, resulting in less water interruptions.
The consistent meeting of the Ward 126 committee, has resulted in the reporting of faults with regards to electricity/roads infrastructure as well as water reticulation, and has vastly improved standards for the residents.
The cleanup campaigns organised by the Residents’ Associations, (and actively supported by myself) have resulted in a cleaner/greener environment for all in the ward. My thanks go to all the organisers and “drivers” of these programs!
This last aspect of active community involvement has made me very proud of those willing to be actively involved in improving their own communities. It is also the time of year that I wish to extend my thanks and appreciation to my ward committee, the resident associations as well as the residents, without whose help and assistance this job of ward councillor would be untenable.
My obvious wish, for you all, as residents, is that if you are going away/travelling please keep safe and enjoy your well deserved rest. Those who are remaining here – maybe we can offer to keep an eye on our neighbours houses or offer to feed their pets?
Lastly, because illegal dumping has become such a problem for us all, both in the streets, and especially in the Green Belt and local river areas – please assist by reporting this unhealthy/abhorrent behaviour to the local authorities.
My thanks to all who have made the effort, and my best wishes to you over the Festive Season!
