Conviction: Fate of the infamous dog abuser

"His sentence was not harsh enough."

The man accused of abusing his Greyhound dog to the extent that the dog had to be euthanised, has been sentenced at the Roodepoort magistrate’s court to three years in prison.

The court heard the sentencing laid down by magistrate Delise Smit on Friday afternoon.

Jabulani Mtshali, 63, received a warning in 2014 for abusing one of his dogs but that did not stop him from continuing to beat the Greyhound dog relentlessly.

The Record previously reported in February this year, the SPCA arrived to the scene after receiving the video where the Greyhound dog was viciously abused, from a concerned resident.

They found an emaciated Boerboel tied up and her puppies were among about 20 other dogs on the property, all in a poor condition. Besides the greyhound another female dog had to be humanely euthanised.

He has shown no remorse in court for what he had done.

“I think he received a good sentence, however, it was not severe enough for the pain he inflicted on all the innocent animals he beat,” Mandy Cattanach from the Roodepoort SPCA said.
