Sherianne, the modest pageant girl
"You should not enter beauty pageants to promote yourself as a model."
Putting education above everything else and achieving goals is definitely what law student Sherianne Pillay, 21 sets out to do.
This Roodekrans resident has it all. Beauty, diligence and a heart that cares for the underprivileged.
In her spare time, she has visited charities such as Babies Behind Bars, who cares for children between the ages of 0 to two-years-old living in prison cells with their mothers. She also spent time at Reach for a Dream, a non-profit organisation (NPO) that fulfills the dreams of children between the ages of three and 18 years who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.
Her excitement visibly shone through when she spoke about her reign as Miss India Gauteng 2015 and her new title crowned as Miss India SA First Princess.
“It has definitely been a growing experience and opened many opportunities for me. This competition has also taught me to be true to myself,” she said.
She recently launched a non-profit organisation Princess Diaries where she not only motivates teenagers, but gives them advice on topics they may not necessarily discuss with their parents.
“I have heard the most dreadful stories from young girls and it is just a blessing to me to be able to speak and be there for them,” said Sherianne.
Although Sherianne is a natural beauty in front of the camera, in her free time she does what every other ordinary girl does.
“When I am not wearing make-up or posing in front of the camera, I am dying to wear pajamas, watch a movie and have my hair tied up,” she laughed.
Although she is a good role-model to follow, Sherianne has someone she looks up to as well
“I look up to my mother, because she did not allow her circumstances of being a single parent to hinder her from achieving her goals.”
“If your heart is in the right place for the right reasons, you will succeed. You should not enter beauty pageants to promote yourself as a model.”
Sherianne plans to get more involved in charity work and hopes to enter the Miss SA beauty pageant as well and make a difference in the lives of young people.
“South African heroes are dying out and it is up to the youth of today to be heroes to the next generation. I want to leave that kind of legacy.”
